As the fourth AJC Decatur Book Festival approaches, Lenz continues to play an integral role in the planning, marketing and graphic identity of the annual Labor Day weekend event.
The unique look for the 2009 festival poster--featuring a “bookzilla” monster dominating the Decatur Square--made the front page of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Living section, in color, the day after the festival’s media launch.
As a companion to the story announcing the 2009 festival schedule, the dynamic poster, designed by Lenz Art Director Scott Sanders, marks the fourth year that Lenz has developed a look and feel for the Festival.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this event, that in only four years has become both a Decatur and a metro-wide institution,” said Lenz founder and CEO Richard Lenz.
In addition to the graphic identity, Lenz works closely with DBF Executive Director Daren Wang and Program Director Tom Bell, as well as the DBF Board of Directors, to create marketing opportunities year round.
“Lenz has supported the Decatur Book Festival from the very beginning, and we couldn’t have a better, more creative, and more involved marketing partner,” Executive Director Wang said.
Lenz designed the DBF web site and created a database structure that enables the Festival staff to plan the event online and lets users see the most up-to-date schedule along with details about each event and each author.
Lenz also handles public relations for the festival. Since the initial festival in 2006, Lenz has recorded more than 390 verified major media hits, reaching 173 million people, at a publicity value of more than $3.25 million.
More than 110 authors have been interviewed or featured in print, radio, TV and online. Major coverage has come from WSB-TV, FOX 5, CSPAN Book TV, CBS, The Weather Channel, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Creative Loafing, Atlanta Magazine, The Atlanta Business Chronicle, The Sunday Paper, The Gwinnett Daily Post, WSB-AM, WABE 90.1 FM, 99X, Dave FM, KISS 104.1, B98.5, 97.1 The River, and many more.
In addition to working with the Festival every year, Lenz holds the distinction of being the first cash donor to the organization.
“We saw the potential for the Festival and were pleased to be able to contribute to help get the event off the ground. Thanks to the hard work of the entire Festival team, from the staff to the board to the hundreds of community volunteers, the Festival has been successful beyond our expectations,” Richard Lenz said.
